How to Choose the Perfect Hairstyle for Yourself

No doubt, there is a lot to consider when narrowing down ideas from your Pinterest board. Will my hair do this? How much effort will it take? Do I just like the model or do I really like their style for me? Let us help you decide. If you can’t wait to come in for a consultation or just need a place to get started, you’ve come to the right place.

  • 2.25 Hair Rule

Tiktok says its practically fool proof. This rule states that if the longest part of your chin is less than 2.25 inches from the tip of your earlobe, then short hairstyles are for you. Some stylists, however, say that the 2.25 rule is too simple and that other factors are more important, such as hair texture, density, facial features and lifestyle. For example, short hair can make a long face look wider, but it can also make thin hair look fuller.

  • Face Shapes

To find out which of the 7 face shapes you have (triangle, round, square, oval, diamond, rectangle, and heart), simply grab a dry-erase marker or some lipstick if you don’t mind scrubbing the mirror afterward. Stand about a foot away from the mirror and outline your face shape with your hair pulled back. What did you discover? While oval is considered the “ideal” face shape, any face shape can be balanced out with the right haircut. A round face benefits from angles while a rectangular face looks great with some width added.

  • Contrast

A new buzz gaining traction in the beauty industry is “contrast.” This refers to the difference in lightness or darkness among your hair, features, and skin tone. Your contrast level—low, medium, or high—can influence which hairstyles and colors will complement you best. If you are a LOW contrast individual (also known as Soft) then Muted Colors will compliment you best and ADD to that softness. If you are a HIGH contrast (also known as Sharp) then Clear Colors will compliment you best and add to that sharpness.

  • Color Theory

Similarly to contrast, but even more confusing, is Color Analysis. Seasonal color analysis is a system that takes skin tone, natural eye tone, and hair color and formulates the best color palette for us based on those factors. Here is a great website that goes really in-depth about what color analysis is and most importantly, how you can figure out what ”season” you are!

  • Personality/Style

One of the biggest factors to consider is your own personality and style. What do you want to convey to the world? Show off your unique personality with a style that suits you at work, at home, and even at the grocery store.

  • Lifestyle

That leads us to the final factor for determining your new style. Your lifestyle. Are you a get up 4 hours early for work kind of person, with the luxury of time to leave in Velcro rollers while you do your makeup or are you a roll out of bed, put shoes and sunglasses on kind of person? Your hair should be tailored to the amount of effort you want to put into styling, washing, deep conditioning, and maintaining in the salon.

We encourage you to feel confident in asking any questions before, during, and after your appointment. Our goal is for you to absolutely love your hair and have ease in keeping it looking its best between visits.
